Kevin the sociologist
Yesterday morning we had an exciting workshop about the difference of cognitivist and sociocultural ways of learnig. At the beginnig there was a lot of theory that was a little bit complicated for me to unerstand its meaning in the classroom but as time went passing by I found that what he was saying had a significant meaning for me. I am not in favor of any of the two approches because I think that extremes are not good. We have to reach to a balance between the two streams. I consider contextualized grammar very important because students can understand how to use the language in the right place. Apart from that if we catch the studentds' atenttion then everything will be achieved. one way of doing this is introducing grammar points through text that students are willing to learn and talk about. Students need to be able to participate in the community and language gives them the power . If they don't get the language they will fall apart. we have to bare in mind that language is organic it goes growing and changing all the time and remember that Linguistics is a human science
